Visitor Information

Learn about Growing and Harvesting Hops
Foothill Farms welcomes
visitors throughout the year – to walk or work the fields. In April you will find us
grubbing hop rhizomes and planting new hills.
In May, look for the trellis to be strung and the foot
high hop plants to be trained to the trellis strings.
Rapid growth in June, July and August requires watering,
weeding, thinning and maintenance as the hops reach heights of 20 feet
or more. Harvest
time comes in late August and early September.
The hop bines are cut from the trellis and the blossoms
are hand-picked and dried using methods very similar to those of the 19th
century. The leaf
hops are then pressed, vacuum-sealed and frozen for freshness.

Tour the Farm
Stop in the Hop Shop and ask for a tour. Check
out the hop fields. Maybe meet Erin and
Bandit, our pinto reindeer. That's right -
Reindeer! Watch out behind you. Cascade (Cassie)
and Nugget
(Nuggie), our pygmy goats, may just give you a friendly nudge.
Yes, they are named after hops! What did you
expect? Out and about, you'll see Magic, our beautiful sorrel miniature
horse, and Sally, the mini-donkey. And oh, that cute little
gray critter is Dharha, our miniature
zebu cow.
